About ME
Michael started as a stand up but gave it up on the advice of a doctor, who said he'd never seen anyone die so horribly. And he worked in Iraq.
And so, Michael started writing for a monthly sketch show at The Stand comedy clubs, and was noticed by a BBC producer. She asked him to write for a number of BBC Scotland radio shows. He entered a BBC Writersroom sitcom competition 2015, and was shortlisted and invited down to Salford. He got one of the coveted places on the course, and hoped it would lead to a commission, or possible romance. It didn't. He wrote for 'The Dog Ate My Homework' the Bafta winning CBBC children's show. So I kind of have a Scottish Bafta. Kinda. He's been shortlisted for competitions including Triforce, Sitcom Trials, Sitcom Mission, and Shortcom. He's also written for numerous sketch shows on TV and radio, including 'The Karen Dunbar Show', 'Newsjack', Laura Solon's 'Talking and not talking', and 'The Treason Show'. Michael worked with Jo Caulfield on her radio show, her stand up, and wrote some pieces for her to use in interviews. He also wrote a sitcom pilot for her. He has completed twenty two sitcom pilots. And is writing more as you read this. Nothing's been made yet. But as poet & novelist Sylvia Plath said "I love my rejection slips. They show me I try." Of course, she went on to kill herself. So, make of that what you will. Michael doesn't like the term 'comedy genius' and so far, no-one has used that term to describe him. He often writes about himself in the third person. He is an existential determinist, and a Capricorn. Michael lives with his wife Kitty, who is actually a cat. Their marriage has not been blessed by the Church. |
