Then Jefferson came by. He drank wine and smoked. I ate some food. Then I smoked a cigarette.
That night we went to the bar. I drank wine. Jefferson and the girl ate dinner. Then we all drank. The night was cold.
"Would you like an absinthe?" I asked the girl.
"Yes. A pint s'il vous plait."
She drank until the bar closed. I walked her home and she tried to run across the Seine. She made it half way, then sank.
The next morning it was bright. I went to the bar and drank coffee. Jefferson came along around mid-day. We drank and smoked cigarettes.
The girl had gone to the bullfights.
I drank cognac, and danced a little. Jefferson met a man he knew from New York. They drank beers and talked of Brooklyn and then Jefferson took a shit in the man's hat and ran away.
Jefferson and I went fishing. I caught a big fish. We drank on the shore of the lake. And then I went home.
The next day I went fishing with the girl. Jefferson went to the bullfights. At night we sat out in the cool breeze and drank and smoked cigarettes.
"Do you love me?" said the girl.
"Of course I do" I said.
It was a beautiful evening, marred only by a small argument about the war, and me punching her in the face.
On Tuesday I had lunch with the big fish. We drank pernod.
Jefferson and the girl met some bulls. They went to Montmatre.
Later in the evening I met the girl. Jefferson had been fighting with the bulls. The bulls went fishing. We all met at the Cafe du Ponse and drank coffee and smoked.
Wednesday morning was too hot to sit at the Cafe. We went to Aubervillers and drank wine.
"Kiss me like I've never been kissed before" she said.
I kissed her on the esophagus. The concierge from my hotel had some bad news. My room had become infested with rabbits.
"Stay with me" the girl said.
I laughed and ran off.
When she didn't follow, I went back. She was gone and I couldn't remember where she stayed. I slept in an alley just of the Rue de la Guerre a la Recherche du temp Perdu. I don't know how long I slept. I lost track of time.
Thursday was dull and grey, like an accountant's funeral. We drank battery acid. Jefferson got drunk and went home with the fish. The girl went to the bullfights with a mime. I took the bulls to Pamplona. We drank absinthe and I had sex with the bulls.
On Friday it rained.
I drank coffee. And wine. And smoked.
As the sun went down I put a shotgun in my mouth.
